Incense Clock

Why this clock exists

A Chinese incense clock in the Science Museum uses maze-shaped stencils so powdered incense can burn along a measured path. Some mixtures also let scent announce the passage of time without a glance. This screen cannot reproduce that sensory richness, but its ember still makes duration visible as transformation. The day advances by consuming material; what remains is as meaningful as what has already turned to ash.
